I don't know about a channel cat but I do have a catfish. He was about 4 inches long last year when I got him. I couldn't believe my eyes when I moved my pond this weekend and had to catch him. He is now 12" easy. I'm pretty sure by next year he may be too big for his new home.

I had catfish in my az pond, they are great for cleaning the bottom of it. Most likely will have a few in our maryland pond.

Well, in arizona, the pond was 5 feet deep, the water never got colder than 45 F or so, in the summer due to the water fall filter the water stayed around 85f even when temps where in the 115f range. We seldom drop below 30f in the winter in arizona.

In Maryland our pond will be 5 feet deep, and we get to -10f but very seldom, this last year we had record snows.

Our pond is not done, so no knowledge of how anything will do over winter from experience, where it freezes, snows, ice storms etc.

I know this is an old post, but I had a channel cat in my pond until he died last year. We are planning to get another one in the next couple of weeks.
