That was a gory death w/ blood and guts.........almost as good as a good horror movie! Guess the snakes gotta eat too just like the frog would eat a worm or bug............circle of life................I just don't want to be a part of it when encountering some critter bigger than me

Kind of Gory kind of cool. Not very often you get to photograph pics like that in the wild. I kind of wondered what the responses would be when I first saw the thread. Your right JW it's a circle of life and it's a good snake to photograph and leave alone. They are far more beneficial than cause harm and keep things in check.

Neat snake, I have always liked snakes, they help control populations of the mice and moles here, probably get a frog or two lol

Neat photos btw

Somewhere...............can't remember of course I was reading that a garter snake will take small fish from a pond. I thought they just ate bugs, didn't know they ate frogs and fish.............oh well there goes that circle of life again!

Yep most of my fish are bigger than a garter snake could eat but a few are tiny but then I never even see any around here. Maybe cuz they don't like the lawn mower or my dawn to dusk talk radio set to come on each morning out there to scare the heron away

Very cool pictures. I always tell my wife that I'm not going to go out of the way to save something in the pond. I let nature do its thing. My pump is my snake. It usually claims about 4 frogs a year. This year its only gotten one before I built a cage around it to keep stuff from getting sucked in since I have it buried in the rocks on the edge of the pond.

My pump was sucking in little fish even w/ the end screen thing on it but the slits were too big and still letting the little ones in there so I stuck my pump in a black plastic plant pot and then put a fiber media mat over the top so nothing but water can get in there now.
