Hi,
Today while at petsmart I seen a koi and bought it because I looked close at it and I seen that it had a bluish grey undertone on part of it's body so I expect it will turn dark and look really nice, I will post pictures when I get the chance and hopefully someone will have the experience and can tell what should turn out.
Thanks

Dont take my word for it, cause I know nothing about it, but I dont think it will change a lot. if at all. IMHO, its a very nice looking little Koi, but it will stay light blue and wont become a dark one. At that size, they already are black. At least mine are.

How big is that fish is a great question, Blue will change as they get older, Can you get a closer pic of the fish? It doesn't really appear to have sushui markings or Kikokuryu. these two are the most common Koi that are called Blue. Sushui will turn more of a white grey as they get big, Kikokuryo usually have mettalic markings and the blue fades but still shows up well as they get big. The red should stay close to what it is now but the Sumi (Black markings) will probably change many times in the years to come. Sumi is the one color that when it is not solid has the most chances of getting bigger, smaller, going away etc. on that fish. Your fish does have some good colors and I think in the years to come it will turn out to be a really nice fish. Make sure and keep the pics when the are small and watch and take pics as they grow. You will be surprised out how much they change as they grow older!!!!

it is only about 6-7 inches long right now, im not sure of the age im assuming only a few months because it was a new shipment so i had to jump on it. i already released it into the large holding tank and he is hiding low at the bottom now so getting a better picture will be really hard, i do have other pictures i took that may help more, i can post but im not sure if the will help. and im actually really happy with this purchase, i never realized how pretty it was until i had it in the tank looking down at it. and thank you for the compliments, i really appreciate them. i will keep these pictures because it would be really interesting to see how it turns out, i will post more pictures in a couple months and at the end of the summer to show if he has changed.

If they are 6-7" now the fish are over a year old. 4-6" is normal for the first 12 months under ideal conditions.

Just a photo hint, I notice when peeps take shots of fish, they are usually in a blue container, the colors show up a lot better.

Nice looking fish you picked up there.

One suggestion for you. Koi are very social. Do you have a comet or another "canary" fish you can put in with it? It will help it to be less stressed and hiding at the bottom.

It should be interesting to watch this one grow. It looks like the black will expand some. I am guessing the blue will lighten in some areas to more white. The skin may thicken a little more and the blue will wash out more and more to white.

i do have it with about 12 other comets so he is not lonely, he is warming up pretty great these last couple days and eating so im happy about that...but im noticing that past 2 days that the fish have become sluggish
i wonder why?,
and thank you, i am actually really excited to see what becomes of him, i would love for him to become all white except the spot on the head, or turn patchy black with white and red...the possiblities are endless and thats what excites me

Yes koi are very social if they are lonely I think it stresses them out more and they love it when you interact with them .You will notice him after awhile coming when he hears your voice or see's you .Mine love to have play toys in the pond to push around
