Hi- I live in North Carolina and I have a 1,000 gallon (+ or -) pond with 4 Koi.
In the past month I see the water going from clear to murky.
I was thinking of adding some Aquascape Bacteria now to clear it up. It worked last summer when I used it.
Can I add it now (water temp approx. 40 degrees F.

water from clear to not murky? or clear to murky?
I dont do anything to my pond in winter. I've heard that the bacteria doesnt do anything in this weather anyway. I also live in NC.

LOL Whatever makes you feel good.
You do realize of course that the bacteria we want to cultivate in our ponds can't live without oxygen, so if the stuff you are adding is in a sealed bottle there will be no living bacteria in it. Not the type we want to cultivate in our ponds anyway.

Once temperatures begin to rise, your existing pond bacteria should correct the problem. Nothing is very efficient in colder temps.

Bacteria has been around a very long time and is a survivor and in the spring sure as eggs is eggs when as Meyer says your ponds existng bacteia will set about correcting that problem .
Tell me did you do anything such as pre winter maintenance to the pond prior to winter ?
Did you also hook out and remove any dead leaves thruogh your fall ?
Lastly did you clean your filter prior to the winter months hittng as these are all chores a koi keeper should do for thei koi .

Hi Dave -
Yes, removed dead leaves throughout the fall months. Also cleaned filter twice since August...
Guess I will wait and see if water clears when spring arrives.....

Pete one of the things I use on my filters especially after cleaning is Microbe_lift PL Filter pad innoculent Gel which works a treat when starting them up again after cleaning , neve get a problem with my fiters , so why not give it a try my friend ;) .
However remember spring isnt yet here so hold fire a while longer , tell me do you do the odd water change throughout winter , as its something we acctually do?
