I have a newish pond in my newish garden. I have discovered backswimmers now inhabiting my pond. after limited research have found these to be carnivorous. they have already eaten my newly introduced frogspawn, and new baby frogs and also my water snail offspring. I know they fly. Am i living in an area that houses them in other nearby pools, and how can i break the cycle of them breeding in my pond. They are destroying the local wildlife that come into my pond. any ideas out there please

hi barbara anne, i think backswimmers (waterboatman) are just apart of having a pond not a lot you can do to get rid of them maybe net them and relocate be careful they can give quite a painful bite and are voracious predators of small aquatic bugs, tadpoles even small fish fry, give your pond time and it will balance out, as your pond matures lots of other critters will appear and hopefully a happy medium will be found, hope this helps and welcome to the forum. cheers mark
