I have been trying to get my fountain pond under control. I have a box type biofilter (pump in box under course and fine foam filters). When I take the filters out to clean them, I have 40to 50 very small white insects on the water under the filters. When disturbed, the make a cracking sound. Any Idea what they are and why they are there?
Second I have a separate filter box without the foam filters with a separate pump that goes to an exterior UV treatment tube. It has not been able to keep up with the algae lately(I took the filters out of this box with the idea that they would stop the algae before the UV light could kill them). I understand that when the tempurature is 110 to 117, I may be asking too much of the UV solution. But, I hate to keep needing to add an algae chemical every couple of weeks. Any ideas of how to increase the natural algae control without needing chemicals? I did put a couple of Barley Balls in the pond as well.
I have 4 6 to 10 inch Koi and 4 5-6 inch Goldfish in the pond and they seem to be doing fine and growing steadily. The fountain keeps the water temperature in the low to mid 80's.
Thanks for any ideas
