Were thinking of building another pond, 4500 gallon, and installing bottom drains with a pool filter type system. Can we use the 1.5 inch tiger flex line we already have for the drains. Will that be sufficient?

Ponds need larger plumbing than pools, 3" bottom drain and plumbing would be minimum for 4500 gallon, and 4" ideal for larger ponds.
Personally I'd stay away from a pool filter system, I've heard of too many problems with them in pond applications.
Check out pond sieves.

You would want to run 3" PVC pipe from a 3" bottom drain to filtration. Anything smaller can easily clog in a pond set up

As I understand it for a drain to work well there has to be enough water flow to draw the solids in with the water. Generally you always get more flow from a pump with larger pipe because it reduces the dynamic head (friction). The water will move slower in the larger pipe but there will be more water entering it and that is what counts.

Please no comments about using a 6' pipe with a power head.
