Black dots in gills

Oops,

So this guy seems to have some black dots inside the gills,, I noticed this only on this guy and he seems in good health but I don’t remember ever seeing this before?

That is strange... I have never seen something like that before. Is the gill cover otherwise in good condition?

Have you checked your water chemical levels to rule out gill damage? Ammonia, nitrite, chlorine? Another possibility could be damage from gill flukes.

Checked water and all are normal. The hill covers seem intact and this guy seems to be in good health. We are just starting to see warmer weather And i don’t remember this from last fall. I wondered if it wasn’t just a part of the anatomy? The dots seem to be symmetrical.

Hm, I would hope it’s just a normal color change or something, but I don’t really have a good feeling about gills changing color.

Can anybody else chime in?
