Birds as pond-predators....

Just curious. As I drive around, I see a lot of those white cranes [used to know what they were called -- sorry....] in the roadside ditches, "fishing" for frogs, crawdads, etc. But I never hear anything about them when it comes to backyard ponds.

It's mostly the GBH -- and I have heard one mention of a Green Heron, and one mention of a Kingfisher -- that seems to visit our ponds.

Is it too late to add a poll choice of none? In four years of having ponds, I've yet to encounter any pond predators. Of course, I'm not watching my pond 24/7, but I've also never lost a fish due to predation.

Oh yes! Perhaps more if I put a price on the fish that spawned in the pond. The few hundred are the ones I bought. He ate $66 in ONE DAY! Bastard!

You think that's bad? Check out the "values" of the fish over on Koiphen. The egomaniacs there live to brag about their fish that are worth over $10,000 each. Funny thing is, the bird still considers it just another lunch.

I a good survey, you would want to know who is not having any problems... otherwise, your survey would improperly lead people to believe everyone has problems.

Those "white cranes" are Egrets. They especilly love crawfish in commercial low water pond fields and rice fields.

Like Max weve never had any problems with any birds apart from the ones who crap on the Parasol but that doesnt count does it
