Biological filter

Here in Winnipeg, all of our pumps, etc have to come in over winter. Do you think that the biological filter has to be cleaned out before storing for winter?

Guess I'll rinse mine out as well and I like the foam tube idea in the skimmer to avoid cracking. Hi from Winnipeg.
