need some help please.

So I am trying to do a solar system for my pond, I have bought a 40watt solar panel
http://www.amazon.com/ALEKO®-40W-40...rp_a1_3_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=08YXWVMQ0JYR01GXBFNC

and also bought this pump.....http://www.amazon.com/350GPH-Volume...rp_a1_5_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=08YXWVMQ0JYR01GXBFNC

I connected the pump directly to the solar panel and it only worked like 5 days before it burned out.....
could anyone recommend a pump that I can directly connect to my solar panel that will work without burning out

Probably a faulty pump.
No need for an inverter as both pump and panel are DC.

I am curious if this is the only pump in your pond. If you have fish, the water must be circulated 24/7/365 or problems will develop. Solar, by nature, can not provide this.

Sounds like one more shady dealer. Offer poor quality products and run with the money. Do you have contact information to make a warranty claim?
Go on-line to a reputable established pond or solar pump dealer and see what is offered.

I contacted them and they took weeks to reply, and seemed unwilling to cooperate. I am in the Caribbean so the money its takes to return it is not worth the trouble

I run my pond on solar. If you are planning on connecting a pump to a battery, I highly suggest using a charge controller so as to protect the battery. There aren't really any decent long lived DC pumps I've found. I use an attwood bilge pump (500gph 1.5amp draw) but the first one (which kept a hole open this winter) only lasted 5 months. The pumps are cheap ($16) but having to wire them each time you replace it can be a pain.

The batteries you linked to should be fine, any deep cycle battery is going to work.
