Does anyone have any experience or information regarding the Aquadyne Bead filter - I'm still looking for a filter system to replace a sand filter I got rid of. My pond is 2400 gal size with about 50 fish and this looks like it would do the job although pricey. Thanks

aquadyne has a good reputation on our area.

one word of wisdom from more experienced hobbyists is to take the manufacturer's claims for filtration capacity and divide by as much as 4 to get a more realistic estimate of capability. this applies to the claimed fish weight capacity. this one suggests a 65kg service weight, 143 pounds. you could plan for from 35 to 70 pounds realistically. to get a sense of what that means for filtration, you can use a 1.5 percent feeding rate per pound to see how much waste is generated. 35 to 70 pounds means 10 ounces to 18 ounces a day. that can be a lot of waste a week still using the conservative estimates, an average koi food, and that filter.

Thanks Carolinaguy for the reply./ If I go that route (aquadyne) i will get a larger system then the manufacturer recommends. It is too bad I didn't hold onto the sand filter and try the replacement of beads instead of the sand and see how that worked. It's all academic now as I sold it. But think I might try the Aquadyne 1.1B system. I guess I will still have to keep the strapping in the bio filter at the waterfall along with the media pads that I have been using. It would be nice if I didn't have to use the media pads (with all the cleaning & replacing) weekly etc. after installing the Aquadyne system. Thanks Bob
