Hi everybody !

I m trying to dig the pond in my backyard.
And it is not easy for several questions.

1 I m alone !
2 it is heavy earth down there (clay)
3 between the clay and the grasse I have some old glass bottle, bricks bones and cement.

So i almost finish the main hole still few Wheelbarrow.
But I want to have shore and I think that all that crap under the grasse will Block the growth of the roots of any plants installed !

I drop some picture of the edge of the pond and I m quiet desepered about how far I will have to dig toget rid off those bricks and glasses...
All ideas are welcome.

And Yes the little island in the middle is not there anymore.

Thanks all !

Glass sharp rocks etc can effectively be taken care of by using sand. Dig the pong 6 inches larger and install 6 inches of sand. Apply geotextile 8 Oz and your pretty much guaranteed a long liner life.the sides can be a bit trickyer you can double up the fabric or as you set the pond wall even if no rock as the water is filled you can slip some course sand in it compacts better than fine sand.

There are also fiberglass 1/8 inch sheet and bituminous sheets as well . I did the latter with azek and sand around my cistern as I found a bottle dump from when the built my 100 year old home.

Reminds me of when my dad filled the pond in our backyard where I grew up. Every old lawnmower, weedeater, chair, etc went in that hole. I hope no one else ever decides to put a pond back in that location.😒

Here how it looks now! I'm waiting for your advice.

Great progress! So long as you have soil near/above the edge, it will be a constant battle to keep mud out of the bottom. That might not be a problem if it's intended to be a wildlife pond, but it's a PITA if you're aiming for an ornamental pond with good water clarity.

Great work! If you want to hide the li er better, move the rocks off, pull the liner back and dig a shallow shelf, below water level. Take a look at the edge post in construction.

Nice progress. Also wanted to say "hi" to you in Belgium, special place in my heart as I studied at the University in Leuven for one year in college. Funny thing I was just telling my daughter last night how delicious Belgian Frites are;)
Follow Addy's advice on the edging and you will get that cleaned up, it takes a little bit of time but you will get there.

Thank you very much for your advices and greatings I ll read it and dig just what I need more to make it cleaner and hide the liner!💪
I've got the tip and the motivation now !
I ll also wait à little bit that the rain calm down here in belgium and taste some (french) \ ( belgium) fries 🍟...😉
I also would like to install à pump and à zinc basin with épuration plants to clear the water.

I d like to create a wild stuf but clean 😉

I ll be uploading more picture after.
