How come my baby Koi comes out more than the baby goldfish?

How can I get the goldfish to come eat?

I wouldn't worry about it, Alice.
Feed them a little bit then walk away. If you are hanging around wanting to watch them eat, they can see you and will stay hidden.
As a piece of food drifts in front of them, and if they are hungry, they will grab it.

Just don't feed them a lot, it is easy to foul the water with over feeding. They do hide, I have a few fan tails in my deck pond, three weeks now, they are just now sort of coming out so I see they are still there.

Hi Alice. How is it going with your pond? Baby goldfish can be really shy. This is what keeps them safe from predators. It's a natural instinct and it serves them well. Re the baby koi... ...maybe it was around people more before you got it.

Also, how do I know if I have a male vs female? Goldfish and when we get a koi again, would I have to wait until they are a year?
