Has anyone looked at the planets in the night sky with a telescope? My sons and I have been watching Venus and Saturn. Saturn is so awesome to look at now. You can make out the rings very well what a sight to see! Venus is the brightest object in the evening sky right now. Saturn can be seen in the East to south eastern sky and Venus is do west.

I have an 8" Skywatcher dobsonian; very basic, but gives some beautiful views on a clear night.

I have 6" F6 Dobsonian but you don't need much right now to enjoy it, do you? Isn't that Mercury appearing on the horizon as the sun sets?

Should still be able to see Saturn and its rings. Will have to use your highest viewer for it. Venus is do West as the brightests thing in the sky. It is best viewed right at sundown as it will disapear later in the night. Mars South western sky in Constalation leo. Still good to see!

Tnx. Can you see more than the four larger moons (Jupiter) through your scope? I've wanted to build one with a bigger mirror but seems like just a two or four inch increase in size doesn't improve the image that much? And those "Best of HUbble" pix are sooooooooo nice.

Apparently only the four largest moons are visible to an earth-based telescope.

That's always been the thing holding me back from going to a bigger scope. To get more than four moons and the rings of Saturn it takes a lot. And then there are those wonderful Hubble images that make the view from my scope look dismal in contrast. But, there is that look in a seven year old's eye when he sees Saturn for the first time. Maybe another day.

It is a wonder of amazement for children to see it. Hell who am i kidding it amazes me too! It is very tough to see Jupiter let alone the moons. Your larger scopes can. We have seen some of saturns. More than likely titan.
