Hi, my pond is about 1000 gallons and sits in the hot Florida sun all day long on my screened in patio. I now have hornwort in the left half of the pond and a lily plant there as well. (The picture was taken prior to the hornwort growth spurt!) My hornwort has grown tremendously since last fall and does the best throughout the winter and spring months when the temperatures here are around 50 - 60 degrees. Now that we are in the 90's, the hornwort just starts to turn brown and disintegrate. It makes a giant mess of the pump/filter. Does anyone have any ideas of what else to use for shading of the pond. Without some type of shade my poor fish will boil in the hot sun! I tried umbrellas but that was just tacky looking! I've tried other plants like water lettuce and it too just turns yellow and mushes away! Without the hornwort, all of the fish just sit under the bridge in the shade and I really want them to be able to swim about. It stays really hot here now through October so I really need to shade at least some of the pond. Thanks!
