Just seen this video on Youtube

Absolutely heartbreaking :( I feel for the guy. He's obviously very upset.

This has got me worrying. I recently purchased a pressure filter (different brand) and its doing a fine job I might add. Simple to maintain and economic . But now I'm worried it could burst.

This is the product I have
http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/p...pf-5000-and-6800pp-pond-pump-bundle-6358.html
It says the maximum flow rate is 10000 liters an hour, and my pump is 10000liters per hour. I'm tempted to purchase a slightly less powerful pump, just as a precautionary measure. Or get rid of the damn thing and get a decent bay filter.

Fish mate are a decent brand apparently, and I now mine is a cheaper version.
I dunno. I don't want to wake up one day and be in the same situation as this poor chap.
Your thoughts please?

I have seen them crack and split down the side as my neighbor had one and it just cracked for no reason except heat may have broken down the plastic .

I have mine completely buried up to the top. The instructions state you can either have it freestanding or buried up to the top. Hoping the soil surrounding it will reinforce it somewhat and stop the sun from heating it up. Wish I'd never bought the damn thing now. Got me worrying. my old man is fuming as he recommended a bay filter and I went ahead and got a pressurized one, as I read some good reviews. The pond I built for my parents. I'm in a right mess. Aghh

If you have your piping that draws the water from the pond above the bottom by xx amount your fish will have water to live in if you have a failure. I don't recall if you had a bottom drain etc.

Been 8 years and thank you the fish like it .I am in the process of rebuilding the bridge and waterfalls.I also built a small replica of my house and it now houses the aerator and some parts for it .I wanted to try to organize all my pond supplies close to the pond .

No i don't have a bottom drain. The pump is right at the bottom of the pond though as I heard this is the best way. And the outlet comes out at the opposite end of the pond.
Maybe I should raise the pump slightly , or come up with some fail safe to turn the pump off if something were to happen

Raise the pump high enough to leave the fish some water if something goes wrong. A lot put them on a milk crate etc. I only use external pumps, so someone with a submersible will chime in.

I have mine a foot off the bottom of the pond .They do have low water switches and one of my pumps has a built in low water switch and just shuts itself off so it does not burn out .I got it at lowes hardware here .You could maybe try to google it and see what you come up with .Most farm supplies sell them here .

One pump i have can be submersible or external .I have a pipe and since the sides of the pond support it I just tie a rope to the pump and to the pipe .I put a buoy they use to mark spots in water and stuff tied to the pump so it can float up or down on the loose end of the rope .it washed ashore in Atlantic City when i was there so it helps keep the pump from sinking to far and the weight of the pump keeps it from rising up to far ..Stupid idea but it works .The pipe is just to help me slide the pump towards me to maintain it and clean it .The buoy is just made of hard foam .
