Does anyone use airation or is a waterfall good enough? Will too many plants cause the O2 levels to drop at night? One article i read for preparing your pond for winter talked about plants using up the O2 at night.

i use both.. my pump is a hagen optima, hooked up to 2 3" top fin volcano air stones same pump if bought rated for outside use is $70.00, it costs under $30.00 but you have to put it in a tupperware storage container becase its rated for indoor use. but it puts out some air. it will power 7 1" airstones. i use it outside and in the basement pond..its been running nonstop for a year. it also has a flow adjustment

Plants don't use oxygen, they just don't produce any during the night. They need light for photosynthesis to take place.
