Since there are a lot of you on here who work with different materials in your work or hobbies......

Where can you find fiberglass rods like the one used in my "pet tent?" These are 36" long with a rubber or plastic tip on each end. But I'd need them a little longer.

This is a little tent we bought years ago for our ferrets. We don't have ferrets now, but our cats like the tent. It's a little too small for them, so I wanted to make a larger version.

I wonder if an arts and crafts store would have them? Cute idea by the way :)

Turtle Mommy,

If you have a Tractor Supply store or other farm supply outlet nearby you can buy fiberglass rods there for electric fencing posts. They usually come in lengths from 36" to 48", maybe even longer, and are about 7/16" diameter white fiberglass rods. One end is tapered to a point to push into the soil and the other end is cut flat. They don't have the end caps like you show in your picture, but you can improvise something for that.

They won't bend as well as your picture shows, however. They are more rigid than that.

I use them for set-line fishing on the river. You can drill a hole through the blunt end and run a string or a wire ring through it to attach stuff to it. I insert a large, round metal keyring through the hole and attach my set-line to the ring.

When new they are pretty smooth, but beware when they get weathered, the fiberglass strands can stick you when pushing them into the ground and itch. Use gloves.

An other idea would be to buy the fiberglass flag sticks that they use for golf carts and ATV's. These will be much longer and more flexible. You would have to remove the triangular orange or red or blue flag from the end.
