35 gal DIY filter idea

just wanted to have some input if I will run into any problems with this kind of setup? Both the in and out lines need to be on the same side of the pail the way my pond is setup.

might ditch the hamster balls and just drill out a pvc cap so no media can get thru

here is my 35 gallon filter, Pretty close to what your thinking, Works very well, I'm happy with it. I do advise if at all possible find a barrel instead of the trash can for longer lasting and for more durability. also the bottom and sides are flat easier to drill and mount fittings, No ridges to deal with.

the brute pails are as heavy duty as you can get and flat all around, might pipe the air diffuser line thru the side also.

The only thing I see missing that I would add is some type of prefilter. I like to have a prefilter before the water goes into the plastic bio media just to help keep it clean

Water coming from a skimmer

My water is coming from a pump in the pond with a prefilter box attached, no skimmer in this pond.
