Hi, Always have been a huge fish tank guy and wanted a pond and luckily the house that I just am moving into has a pond!

I was real excited when I saw it and surprisingly there was still 2 fish in the pond. The landlord said he doubts they've been fed in a long time and the pond was pretty gross. We cleaned it out and got the waterfall working but ran into some problems.

The UV light was leaking which caused the pond to almost completely empty. We aren't moved in yet so don't go by every day so thank god we caught it before it killed the fish. The liner inside that seals the water from coming out is broke somehow and it just leaks so I guess that'll be #1 on the to get list.

It does have a filter which I have running now just with no UV. Is this why the water is all nasty and really there is no visibility?

Thanks and look forward to learning more about ponds.

It has a filter, the brand is Laguna not sure of the model but there is a box in a basement so I can get the exact model. Is that a good brand or no? The pond is only probably 250 gallons.

Because it emptied out from the UV leaking I did get a chance to clean it pretty good, but still have green water :(.

green water after cleaning and adding new? the uv will clear in a few days as long as the bulb is good... if it doesn't then you need a new bulb..and fix the leak or have it over the pond or skimmer so water just drips back into pond

Yes. Not running the UV though, it leaks and also looks cracked. I can take a picture of it and see if it's worthless or fixable or what. I'm planning on upgrading the entire tank with a new filter and UV anyways, but with moving and having to repaint the whole house and stuff it'll be a few months before I can. The fish seem to love being fed, already they are fun and interactive like I'm used too in the fish tanks. At first they wouldn't eat food I put in the pond but now they love it.

Good idea on moving the UV though, I can put it on top of the waterfall mount thing because it's covered in some plants at the very top.

Hi megatron, Welcome. The green water is probably bothering you more than the fish. A certain amount of algae and beneficial bacteria is good and promotes a healthy environment for your fish. If you take your time cleaning it the fish won't mind. Try not to scrub the algae off the liner and always use declorinated water when cleaning anything.
